Card Sorting Exercise Improves Public Website IA
Situation:
The executive management team at my firm wanted to update our company's public website. In addition to aesthetic improvements, they also wanted to make content both more descriptive and easier to find.
Approach:
While our production department researched potential design firms and off-the-shelf website solutions, I led a small, cross departmental team to determine what content should comprise the new site. We identified pages from the existing site that would be included in the redesign but also created additional pages as needed. After we completed this process, I had all of my colleagues complete a card sorting exercise using Optimal Workshop's OptimalSort software. Based on the findings from this exercise, I worked with the cross departmental team to establish the navigation structure for the new website. Once the layout was established, we finalized content for the new pages.
