Retirement Plan Participant Website Redesign Verified through Task Flow Analysis

Situation:

One of the financial services industry’s top ten retirement plan providers by AUM was nearing the completion of a redesign of its defined contribution plan participant website. They wanted an objective, third-party's perspective as to whether the new design supported the major tasks performed by participants (e.g., change contribution rate, change investment elections, etc.).

Approach:

To support these efforts, I reviewed a clickable prototype of the proposed site, analyzing the seven use cases requested by the client and providing feedback regarding the site's overall design, information architecture, functionality and usability. Along with this expert review, I also benchmarked the site against four of the client's key competitors, highlighting strengths and weaknesses and identifying areas for improvement.
